MAHOMMEDAN FUNERAL

Impressive Scenes at Cardiff Cemetery

The Lascar seaman who died from exposure under circumstances already reported was buried at Cardiff Cemetery today. The funeral was conducted by the Rev. C. W. Lamport according to the rites of the Church of I England. The chapel was crowded with Mahommedans, a most unusual sight, and it was specially noticed that the demeanour of the worshippers was extremely reverent and devout. At the graveside the same devotion was exhibited. At the conclusion of the service the followers of the Prophet fell upon their knees. Each took a handful of earth whilst one of the mourners recited in his own language, appropriate selections from the Koran. Then they all threw their handfuls of earth on the coffin and spread out their hands whilst they engaged in silent prayer. The scene was most impressive.
